State court or federal court?

Most summonses come from state or county courts, which hear the great majority of cases. A summons from a “United States District Court” is federal and follows federal rules, including the $50-a-day juror fee and the exemptions set by the Jury Selection and Service Act. For a federal summons, go to the website of the district court named on it. The U.S. Courts say summoned jurors complete their qualification questionnaire through that court’s eJuror system. See federal vs. state jury duty.

Why some states link to a general page

In several states, including Georgia, Kansas, Ohio, and Oklahoma, there’s no single statewide jury portal. Each county or judicial district runs its own jury office, and the summons tells you which one to contact. For those states we link to the official state judiciary or state government site and say so in the notes. Where a state has a statewide portal, such as Alabama’s online juror registration or Massachusetts’s Office of Jury Commissioner, we link to it directly.

What you’ll find on state pages

State jury pages usually explain who qualifies, how to respond to a summons, how to ask for a postponement or excuse, what the state pays jurors, what employers must do, and what to expect on your reporting day. Many also warn about phone and email scams. Courts rarely ask for personal information or payment over the phone. See jury duty scams.
